According to government statistics nursing is the fastest growing career field in all of the United States. Given the aging population and the retirement of the baby boom generation, this should be no surprise. The older people get the more medical care they require and the greater the need for qualified workers. Nowhere is that more apparent than the state of California which, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, has the most RN jobs among the 50 states.
To become a registered nurse in the State of California you must attend a college or university offering a program that has been approved by the state. Upon earning your degree you will have to pass a state licensing exam before you can begin working. We have provided below a list of schools with nursing degree programs already approved under state regulations.
Please keep in mind we have not included schools with LPN certification programs, primarily because there are far too many of them. Also keep in mind that many of the nursing schools listed below are private institutions which may have specific entrance policies. For example, some of those offering associate and bachelor degrees only admit students who already have an LPN certification. It is up to you to determine what the qualifications are for any particular school you might choose.
